Gentleman are doing it wrong.

I see Zimbabwean men wearing dark coloured trousers with white socks.

Honestly, the combination doesn’t come across as formal.

Moreover, I see more and more men doing it, which is why I decided to write this article.

When it comes to trousers and socks pairing it’s all about creating a haminous look from trousers to shoes.

You need matching colors.

Why white is bad

If you wear black trousers and some dark coloured shoes like brown and black, the vividness of white socks makes them look out of place.

White is a casual colour which gives a casual appearance. For formal settings, it does not look good.

Socks combination that work (Safe Bets)

General rule of thumbs:

  • Socks must match your trouser’s colour. This creates a harmonious grading from trousers to shoes.
  • Ensure your sock colours are muted, dark shades, e.g. black, navy, grey, charcoal, tan
  • Avoid socks with too many coloured patterns.

You cannot go wrong with black. Black is a universal colour and can pair with almost anything.

If you don’t want complications, keeping a pair of black socks is a wise choie.

Blue socks, particularly navy also work well, especially with navy trousers and brown shoes.

Dark grey or charcoal

If you have grey pants, you can pair them with dark grey or charcoal socks.

They can also work with khaki pants (trousers)

Conclusion

When it comes to sock pairing, ensure there’s a harmonious grading from trousers to boots. Avoid vivid colours that break the grading.

If you’re not confident pairing socks and trousers, use black, which is a safe bet.
